An anxiety-sufferer and a worry wart got their heads together to create an experiment for themselves. Married couple, Richie and Hevyn Allen, decided to go on a sort of negativity FAST. Richie’s first comment was “I don’t think I can do this.” Three days later, they were already seeing the results of a positive perspective.
Several local and Facebook friends became interested–cheering the couple on, being inspired by their status updates and tweets, and joining in the experiment itself.
Hevyn: It was shocking to realize how negative I was. I complained about everything from how I felt to running errands. When someone asked me how my day went: I majored on the things that went wrong rather than the good things. Now, I find that I am more grateful for what I have, more considerate of others, and I argue with Richie a lot less!
Richie: I’ve suffered with panic/anxiety disorder since I was about 10 years old. After several years of searching and researching, I discovered that most of the cause of anxiety is from negative and “what-if” thinking. I’ve attempted in the past to change my thinking, but I was really never committed to it. That’s all changing now. I’m starting to see a MAJOR difference in my overall attitude and demeanor. Not to mention many of the people I work closely with and those I lead have seen a huge difference in my attitude already. Just ask ‘em! :)
